State Tournament Time – Congratulations to all of you who receive a state tournament assignment. Some things to keep in mind as we head into the State Tournament.
1st, the rules have not changed. We need to enforce the rules the way we have all season. A foul is still a foul. A violation is still a violation. The importance of the game does not change this.
Next, you need to contact your partners and confirm the date, time and location of all assignments. Please keep in mind that, as we move forward in the tournament, sometimes a game may be played at a neutral site. This can occur before we get to the state semi-finals.
Make sure you have a good pre-game! In some cases you may be working with familiar partners whom you may be comfortable with. In other cases your partners may come from different areas. It is vital to get on the same page and become a good team before you step onto the court.
Be sure to go over things like switching, PCA, double whistles, end of period responsibilities, free throw coverage, etc. Communicate during the game. Identify the free throw shooter before you go to report the foul.
Above all, enjoy the experience. If you do, I am sure you will do well.
