Game Protocols…Please be reminded that the referee should contact his/her partner(s) 24 to 48 hours before the assignment. This will help to ensure that a full crew will be present. If you do not hear from your referee, please contact him/her to ensure he/she is aware of the assignment. Such contact should confirm the day, date, time and location.
Disqualification…Remember that disqualification of a player only occurs when an official notifies the coach of this fact. On two occasions recently this was not done. If a substitute for a player who has accumulated five fouls is waiting at the table when you report the fifth foul, you still have to notify the coach of the disqualification. Doing so will avoid potential problems later in the game.
Tips
1. When protecting a shooter on a jump shot, find the waist of the defender.
2. On a jump shot, if the defender jumps first they usually foul, if they jump second, they usually contest. You still must rule each and every situation on its own merits.
3. When arriving on the floor before your game, find the “3” point line that you are using for your contest.
