Three Person Crew-Lead Positioning…Please review lead official positioning in your handbook. Some of us are getting “stuck” at the B position when we should either be at the A position or the C position.
Closing down because the Lead anticipates a rotation is okay. However, staying there when the ball widens toward the sideline on the Lead’s side of the court is not good. It is difficult to get a good field of vision cone on drives to the basket from the sideline. Fouls are missed or are ruled incorrectly because of this particularly when the drive originates from below the free throw line extended..
Game Assignments…Do not accept game assignments at SCHSL schools unless they come from the SCHSL office in Columbia or from our assignment process. Recently a school in a different area of the state had no officials for their contests on a given date. The AD called around and got a couple of SCBOA officials to come in to cover the games. This led to the suspension of those officials by the HSL for violating this rule.
Tip
Shall remember as well as apply notes from our preseason clinicals to become a great official. Thank you for this POE.
