Warning For Delay…Free Throws…There seems to be some confusion about when a warning for delay infraction occurs during free throw administration. As defined in the Rules Book, a warning for delay occurs when either team huddles in the lane prior to a free throw. It also occurs if contact with the free thrower delays the administration of the ensuing free throw.
Mere contact with the free thrower is not sufficient for a delay of game infraction. Such contact must delay the administration of the next free throw for an infraction to be noted.
Official Scorer…Under NFHS rules (2-11-12) as implemented by the SCHSL, the official scorer in a varsity game is required to wear a black-and-white vertically striped garment. There appear to be many schools where this is not happening. Please remind game management of this requirement if you come upon a location that is not doing this.
Tip
Assistant coaches are not allowed to be standing except during timeouts and intermissions. Handle this through the head coach. It does not matter if the assistant coaches are “just coaching.”
