Between Games – Regarding doubleheaders, please remember that at least one official should supervise the warm-up activities between games at all times. After exiting the gym to end coverage of the first game, one official should immediately return to the court.
Varsity Turnbacks/Declines – If you find that you must turn back or decline a varsity assignment from the HSL, please do so through me. This will facilitate the processing of these events at the end of the season since I will already have a record of it. If you do not do this, then you will have to supply documentation about why such a game was declined/turned back.
Waistbands – Just a reminder. If a player is in the game with the waistband rolled out, send him/her out. If a substitute enters the game with the waistband rolled out, send him/her out. Consistently enforcing the rule (3-3-5) now will make it easier for all of us going forward. Once they have been sent out, they must wait until a tick of the clock has run before returning to the game. A timeout does not change this requirement.
Legal Game Ball – Another reminder. The Nike Hyper Elite ball is NOT approved for competition. This applies even if the ball has the NFHS logo on it.
Tip of the Week
Loose Ball Contact – When the ball gets loose and is rolling on the floor, players are coached to “Dive On the Ball!” So the players dive on the ball, dive at the ball, and dive on each other. Let’s remember that, “contact that occurs when the ball is loose” must be officiated the same as if the ball was not loose. Just because the ball is loose, does not entitle players to illegally contact an opponent by bumping, pushing, holding or piling on.
