This week’s items to pay closer attention to.
A few notes from the pre-season tournament week. Please be aware of proper procedures for signaling fouls and violations and resuming play after such.
Some things to pay attention to as the season gets underway. Please make sure all players are properly uniformed. Consistent enforcement of uniform rules now makes it easier for all of us as the season progresses. A summary of the uniform rules is shown below.
Playoffs – We are heading into the State Tournament. Congratulations to all of you who have received an assignment. Games may be more intense. Sharpen your focus. Remember that the rules do not change because we are in the State Tournament. Be consistent and true to the way you have officiated all season.
Last Two Weeks – We are heading into the final stages of the regular season for the schools. Each game may mean more than usual for playoff positioning, region championships, etc. Games may be more intense. Sharpen your focus. Sometimes even teams at the bottom of the region can lash out. Stay alert in your games!
Throw-in Spots – Remember that for personal fouls that result in a throw-in, for AP situations and for violations, the throw-in spot is the spot out of bounds nearest to the foul or violation or held ball. Team Control – Remember that team control can only end in one of three ways. A try is attempted, the other team gains player control of the ball or the ball becomes dead. Coaching Players – Do not coach players when you are officiating. It is not your job. Do not tell a player to “get out of the lane,” “keep hands off,” “use a bounce pass,” etc. While some coaches do not mind, others do. Several complaints have been received regarding this issue. This includes all flagrant fouls (personal and technical) as well as all situations where an individual receives multiple technical fouls.
